Whether you’re moving right around the corner or across the country, moving is a stressful and complicated process. At Truck and i, we believe moving doesn’t have to be scary! With some planning and the perfect movers your move can be easier than you ever thought possible. Here are 5 common mistakes you don’t want to make on your next move!

  1. Attempting to do it all Yourself.

Hiring a reputable moving company may not be cheap, but it’s always worth it. Attempting to do a move yourself, even with the help of friends and family, is going to be way more work. This is especially true if you have especially large or delicate items. Moving large items yourself is an easy way to leave dings or dents in your walls. Our movers are professionally trained to ensure all of your items and your home stays safe throughout your moves!

  1.   Not giving yourself enough time to pack

Packing up your entire home is definitely one of the longest parts about moving! Don’t underestimate how much stuff you have! Waiting too long to pack will add unnecessary stress and tension to your move. Figure in about 2 days of packing for each bedroom in your house giving extra time for the rooms with delicate items! Don’t forget to add in extra time for garages and attics. The earlier you start packing, the more time you have to get rid of unwanted items through yard sales or donations.

  1. Not researching movers

There are new moving companies popping up every day. How do you know which one to trust? To find the right fit for you make sure to ask around for referrals, read reviews, and actually call a few different companies for estimates and more info. Do not just pick the first name you come across, it can end up making your move more stressful and an overall nightmare!

  1. Not going through getting rid of things before moving

Moving is the perfect time to downsize. The less you have to move, the better! Packing and unpacking unwanted items is a waste of time, labor and fuel. It’s best to start your packing process by going through all the things you know you don’t want to take with you and either have a yard sale or donate them.

  1. Forgetting to Change Utilities

This goes for canceling your old utilities along with setting them up at your new home. This is often something that gets overlooked on the list! Make sure you notify your current utility company you’re moving to avoid extra bills. It is also best to make sure utilities are already set up at your new home before move in day. There’s nothing worse than moving into your new home and realizing you don’t have water or power set up!!
